Primary Years at Domuschola
Kinder to Grade 5
Domuschola’s Primary Years curriculum follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) from Nursery to Grade 5. The international curriculum framework was designed for all children between the ages of 3 and 12 years and is part of a continuing program that culminates in the IB Diploma at the age of 19. This qualification is welcomed and recognized by universities both local and abroad.
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) focuses upon the total growth of the developing child affecting hearts as well as minds and addressing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs in addition to academic welfare which balances understanding, the acquisition of essential knowledge and skills, the development of positive attitudes and the opportunity for positive action.
Curriculum Framework
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) combines the best research and practice from schools around the world offering a comprehensive inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning.
The curricular framework is organized around six units of inquiry within six transdisciplinary themes namely:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet
At the heart of the programme’s philosophy is a commitment to a structured, purposeful programme of inquiry as the leading vehicle for learning. Teachers carefully plan out and use multiple resources to allow students to gain multiple perspectives. At Domuschola, students are thought through a comprehensive inquiry-based approach where students are viewed as natural thinkers and not just recipients of information. Through inquiry-based learning, students develop their skills and character that prepares them for a lifelong journey of learning. They are taught how and why they learn instead of just what to learn. They are guided how to make use of their knowledge and application of content to enhance information processing and problem-solving skills.
We believe that education must extend beyond the intellectual to include not only socially responsible attitudes but also thoughtful and appropriate action. The ultimate goal of a successful inquiry is a responsible action initiated by our students, as a result of the learning process.
